Semaglutide and Tirzepatide Injections
Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a peptide medication that is considered a GLP-1 Receptor Agonist. This class of medication was originally used to help diabetics manage their weight and insulin resistance. Over time, the side effect of loss of appetite resulted in the unintended, but beneficial, side effect of weight loss. In June 2021, the U.S. FDA approved semaglutide, a once-weekly injection, for chronic weight management in adults with an elevated BMI or a BMI with 1 comorbidity when used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise.

Tirzepatide

In November 2023, the U.S. FDA approved Tirzepatide injection for chronic weight management in adults with obesity (BMI of 30 kg/m2) or greater or overweight (BMI of 27 kg/m2 or greater) with at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol) for use, in addition to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.
