IPL (Photofacials): AT A GLANCE
IPLs are a type of photofacial that uses a blend of light wavelengths to improve the tone, texture, and clarity of the skin. These non-invasive pigment laser treatment is known for its ability to treat various skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and vascular lesions.
The procedure involves the application of a cooling agent that helps condut light onto the skin, which then amplifies the ability of the light to penetrate the layers to exfoliate and stimulate new skin growth. Recovery typically involves a few days of redness and sensitivity, followed by “sand paper-like” peeling that usually starts around the third day and can last up to a week.
During this period, it’s crucial to follow post-IPL care instructions, such as avoiding sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and keeping the skin moisturized to ensure optimal healing and results.
MICRONEEDLING + IPL TREATMENTS
ADDING IPL TO YOUR MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT PLAN ENHANCES THE RESULTS OF BOTH SERVICES
- Microneedling is excellent at breaking up sun damage and dark spots
- IPL is the #1 choice for LIFTING the pigmentation from the skin, revealing a fresh, even glow
WHY ADD IPL?
Microneedling is phenomenal in stimulating collagen, smoothing fine lines, and improving texture. It also breaks up pigmentation well. By adding IPL to your treatment plan, the dark spots, rather than simply dissipating, are lifted from the skin, revealing a smooth, bright complexion.

Who is IPL good for?
Granted you are a generally healthy individual you are likely a good candidate for an IPL facial. Those of Fitzpatrick Skin Types 5 & 6 are not candidates for IPL pigment facials.
Considerations to keep in mind that will exclude you from treatment include having the following:
1. Hypersensitivity to Light
2. Having a present rash, or skin reactions; vitiligo, autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, etc.), liver condition, or any condition that may weaken your immune system.

8. Electrolysis, Depilatory Creams, Waxing, Laser Hair Removal in the last 7 days.
Consult with our providers to confirm you are a good candidate for this treatment.
When will I see results and how long do they last?
While frequency of IPL photofacials depends on a patient’s individual factors, it is recommended that most patients wait four to six weeks between treatments. Noticeable results will be seen after a single treatment, but best results are seen after 3-6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
For maintenance treatments after the initial series, we recommend IPLs 2-4 times per year, depending on your skin’s needs.
What are potential side effects?
Treatment site reactions typically consist mainly of short-term skin peeling and generally resolve within 72 hours to 5 days.
Rare but possible side effects may include but are not limited to:
-burning pain, skin discoloration, swelling, itchiness
-allergic reaction or infection
– dry skin, inflammation, redness, and scarring
– PIH and folliculitis
What should I expect and what should I avoid afterwards?
-Avoid use of topical products containing AHAs, Retinols, Vitamin A, or any type of exfoliant until after 7 days or given clearance by your Provider.
-Strictly avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week. Apply SPF 50+ for 3 weeks.
-Avoid hot water, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, strenuous exercise, or excessive perspiration for a minimum of 72 hours.
24 hours after IPL, and until the skin peeling begins:
-Skin may be “tight” until it starts to peel.
– Any “Sand-Paper like” Peeling will generally begin 48 – 72 hours after the IPL has been performed, and last for 2 – 5 days after the skin has started peeling.
– IF YOU PEEL, DO NOT PICK OR PULL THE SKIN. Allow the skin to peel at its own pace. (Premature peeling of the skin may develop into post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.)
Some patients may experience extreme dryness after treatment. Continue use of post care products provided and/or recommended by your expert provider from E&G Aesthetic Institute. Wait until the healing process has completed before having any other facial procedures, including: facials, microdermabrasion, laser treatments, hair removal, and cosmetic injections.
